Abstract:

Photograph album documenting construction of an unidentified cylindrical structure (water tank?) at Marinship shipyard, just north of Sausalito in Marin County, probably in 1942 during the early development of the World War II-era shipbuilding complex. Photographs detail the progression of construction from laying of foundation to near completion. Construction of other structures may also be documented in the album. Collection also includes 2 photographs depicting a carrier clamp designed for handling hot iron at the Marinship Training School; a memorandum pertaining to the welding operations at Marinship; a clipping of a story from Mill Valley Record/Marin Register covering the history of Marinship; and multiple copies of the periodical The Marin-er (v.1:30 and v.1:36, both from 1943) and the publication Marinship (1944).
